2024 Spanish GP Roundup
Formula 1
I think we can all agree that the Spanish Grand Prix for 2024 was one of the mildest races of the Formula One season so far, with zero yellow flags, zero red flags, zero retirement and 18 of 20 cars on the same 2 stop strategy. On Saturday we all rejoiced to see Lando Norris out qualifying 3-Time World Champion Max Verstappen, however the young Brit couldn’t hold on for long as he was in P3 before the first corner.
The Mercedes of George Russell made a spectacular start and emerged at the front of the pack from way back in P4 by the first corner, proving a quick reaction time and the clean side of the grid can make up for a not-so-perfect qualifying. This year was the second last year of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya as the Spanish Grand Prix will soon be moved to Madrid as of 2026 in line with the new engine regulations. The Madrid circuit will stay as a part of the calendar from 2026 till 2035 and is said to be a street style circuit held near the heart of Madrid.
The race ended with the inevitable Max Verstappen finishing in P1, followed by Lando Norris and 7-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton. The Home favourites of Carlos Sainz and Fernando Alonso finished P6 and P12 respectively, neither driver having a memorable race. The Australian Daniel Ricciardo fell to P15 by the checkered flag and rumours within the Paddock are that his time in Formula One is very limited. In any case, on to Austria!
