Lando Norris' first Win, Ups and Downs of being a Ricciardo Fan, Magnussen gets a penalty (again?).
110 Grand Prix. 16 Podiums. 1 Win.
Sunday the 5th of May (or very early on the 6th of May for us Australian Fans!) at the Miami Grand Prix marks a historic day for Lando Norris as he earns his maiden win in Formula One after a 5-year career in the sport. It was a tough battle for Norris around the Miami Circuit as he was being pursued by Three-Time World Champion Max Verstappen until the last lap, however it was Verstappen who ultimately lacked the pace in his Red Bull today. A line that formula one fans don’t get to say very often!
Norris’ first victory is only the second race win for his papaya team McLaren in the last twelve years and comes as a shock to the F1 world where, as of late, where Max Verstappen has dominated the sport since the 2023 season, winning 23 or the previous 27 races. Norris has been regarded by numerous team principles within the Formula One Paddock as being one of the most talented drivers on the grid, but the real question is: Is this win the first of many? We’ll have to wait and see..
The McLaren team, led by CEO Zak Brown and Team Principal Andrea Stella have been on a steady path of improvement since the beginning of the 2023 season, with Aussie Oscar Piastri taking victory in the 2023 Qatar Sprint Race and even led the 2024 Miami Grand Prix for a period of time this weekend.
The Miami Grand Prix Weekend has given us some very interesting highlights as well, including an outstanding P4 results for everyone’s favourite Daniel Ricciardo in the Miami Sprint Race on Saturday, some dangerous driving from Kevin Magnussen who earned a crazy 65 seconds worth of time penalties over the weekend, as well as the highs and lows of Lewis Hamilton’s struggle for grip (a never-ending battle it seems).
